9513 Recounts The Stagecoach Music Festival
The fine folks over at the 9513 are recounting the events from this years 3 day Stagecoach Music Festival at Indio CA
(right down interstate 10 from Palm Springs.)
I hope to catch Stagecoach next year because it offers a wide array of talent that country music all at one geographically beautiful venue.
Shooter Jennings to open Charlie Daniels’ Volunteer Jam
Charlie Daniels has invited Shooter Jennings to open a series of Daniels’ Volunteer Jam concerts this year. April 11-12 in Harris, Mich. the bill also features .38 Special (which includes Donnie Van Zant, of the country duo Van Zant.)
The origial Volunteer Jam took place in 1972 was suppose to a one-off showcase of Daniel’s friend’s which just happed to be the best Southern Rock bands of the time which including the Allman Brothers Band and the Marshall Tucker Band.
Deep Blues Festival and BamaJam
It’s time to start planing on this Summer’s musical festivals and this strikes me as two of the more interesting ones.
The 2nd annual Deep Blues Musicland Film Festival seems to do for blues what alt.country did for country music. Taking place July 18-20, 2008 and offering bands from 18 states, Italy, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom – the festival will take place on the East side of Minneapolis/St Paul to the Washington County Fairgrounds by Lake Elmo, MN. The lineup offers 45 band including Richard Johnston, Th’ Legendary Shack*Shakers, T-Model Ford, Scissormen, Black-Eyed Snakes, Black Diamond Heavies, Bob Log III, Scott H. Biram, Left Lane Cruiser, Hillstomp and Charlie Parr.
The Deep Blues Festival prides itself in being a”fan friendly” event. Free parking, affordable ticket prices and concessions, no ticket services fees, and plenty of room for the fans are guaranteed. A film festival will feature dozens of music related films and will be free and open to the public at the fairgrounds throughout the weekend.
A limited quantity of discount advance three day passes for this 21+ show are available at the two festival websites deepbluesfestival.com and myspace.com/deepbluesfestival for $45. Daily tickets will be available at the event for $30. Under 21 are free, but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Gates open at 10:00am, rain or shine.
BamaJam Music & Arts Festival is a three-day event in Enterprise, AL. – June 5-7 – and offers a nice lineup of country, Southern rock, folk and bluegrass acts. The fest will present 30 acts on three stages, including Hank Williams Jr., Trace Adkins, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nanci Griffith, Ralph Stanley, ZZ Top, Randy Owen, Ricky Skaggs, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Del McCoury Band, Tracy Lawrence, Darryl Worley, the Duhks, Dan Tyminski, Eric Church, Claire Lynch and Railroad Earth.
Ticket prices range from $39.50 to $99.50 for general admission, $149.50 to $309.50 for VIP.
Johnstown Folkfest Line Up
The 15th annual Johnstown Folkfest, August 29-31 in Johnstown, PA, has released their featured line-up.
Del Castillo, Tom Russell, Webb Wilder & The Beatnecks, Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers, Shannon Whitworth (former of the Biscuit Burners), Big Sam’s Funky Nation (formerly trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band), Deke Dickerson & The Ecco-Fonics, Barrence Whitfield, Stacie Collins, Amy LaVere, Dallas Wayne, and Farmer Jason (Ringenberg, in his children’s musician mode).
Speaking of Jason Ringenberg, this years Folkfest will feature the first performance by Jason & The Scorchers outside of Nashville in five years.

Dolly Parton to Lead Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
November 19, 2007 — Dolly Parton will take her new single “Better Get to Livin'” to the streets of New York City when she kicks off the 2007 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November. 22.
Dolly will be on the lead float to perform the song live and on television during the morning parade. “Better Get to Livin'” is the first single from Backwoods Barbie, her first mainstream country album in more than 17 years due out February 5. She wrote nine of the songs for the album and produced the CD with bandleader and guitarist Kent Wells.
“I’ve always dreamed of doing the Macy’s parade,” Dolly said. “I guess I don’t get to watch it this year though…I’ll have to tape it!”
Dolly plans to tour in the U.S. starting in February, then hitting Europe in the summer before returning to the U.S. for dates expected into December 2008.
Alex Battles’ Whisky Rebellion in the Pocono Record
Alex Battles’ Whisky Rebellion is slated to play the amphitheatre at Grey Towers’ Festival of Wood at 4:30 p.m. this Saturday (11th.) The band got a nice write up in the local Pocono Record. An excerpt:
Though living in Brooklyn, N.Y., for the past 10 years, Battles grew up on a tree farm in Chesterland, Ohio, and has a deep appreciation for and understanding of forestry and the many ways wood is used in everyday lives, including music.
4th Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival – 9/6-8
On September 6 – 8, 2007, Alex Battles and Brooklyn Country Music present the 4th Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival in Park Slope. The fun begins at Buttermilk Bar on Thursday at 8 PM (NO COVER), and continues on Friday and Saturday at Southpaw ($10 per day or $16 for both). Friday night kicks off at 7 PM, and Saturday is an all-day extravaganza beginning at 3 PM.
