Calexico Adds Fall Dates

This is shaping up to be a great season for concerts! After a busy year of touring the States and Europe, Calexico has announced several new tour dates in December to finish out the year.

Dec 2 – Tucson, AZ @ Rialto Theatre (w/ Annuals)
Dec 3 – Albuquerque, NM @ Launchpad (w/ Annuals)
Dec 4 – Flagstaff, AZ @ Orpheum Theatre (w/ Annuals)
Dec 5 – Tempe, AZ @ The Clubhouse (w/ Annuals)
Dec 8 – San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore (supporting Los Lobos)
Dec 9 – San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore (supporting Los Lobos)

The Tucson show on December 2 continues Calexico’s annual tradition of throwing a year-end hometown benefit concert. A portion of the proceeds will go to KXCI, a local community-sponsored radio station. Proceeds will also go to Humane Borders who, along with other organizations like No More Deaths and Border Angels, offer humanitarian assistance to those in need through more than 70 emergency water stations on or near the US – Mexico border, ultimately trying to quell the hundreds of deaths every year in the Arizona desert due to dehydration.

A representative from Humane Borders will be at all Calexico’s headlining Southwestern shows to answer questions or provide insight into their cause. Also, the tour as a whole will be presented in association with Music for America, an organization connecting concert-goers with social justice organizations and political issues they might not be aware of both nationally and in their own local communities.

Scott H. Biram Fall Dates

From the Sleaze-Meister himself:
So I just got back from Davenport, IA playing at the River Roots Live Festival with The Black Crowes, The Gourds, Alejandro Escovedo, and 12 other acts on Saturday. We had alot of fun out there!

Keep your TVs tuned to NBC on November 2nd for “My Name is Earl”.
SHB original song “Blood, Sweat and Murder” will be used on the show.
Some other good news is that I’ll be playing with Clutch, and The Sword

Clutch and I have been trying to make something happen for over a year now.
They want to tour with me, but our schedules keep clashing. IT WILL HAPPEN EVENTUALLY!!

For now you can see us together on Dec. 29th in Sayreville, New Jersey!
Don’t forget about SHB and Nashville Pussy on October 24th either!
I’ll also be playing, both the Bloodshot Showcase, and The Billions Showcase at CMJ Music Fest in NYC this November. We are building an entire East Coast November tour around this so check the schedule below, and check www.scottbiram.com for updates on the tour schedule. Also, The Shack Shakers and I are working on a New Year’s Eve Show in Chicago, but this is not yet confirmed.

I’ll keep you posted and hopefully we can all spend NYE together.
Once again, I have to thank everybody for all the support on the new record.
The tours have been great and my songs have been getting alot of play on both satellite and traditional radio.

Ann Richards – Texas Hero – R.I.P.

I want to take a moment to observe the passing of a Texas hero, Former Governor Ann Richards. She will always be remembered for bringing an air of dignity and civility into Texas politics which is an exceptionally rare feat and a sorely missing characteristic in these political times.

Ann had the natural Texas gift of the droll. At the Democratic convention in 1988 she tartly drawled “Poor George, he can’t help it, He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.” while speaking about the current president’s father, former President George Bush.

As she rides off into the sunset Ann Richards leaves this world a better place.

Musick Fest Benefit Concerts – Athens, GA.

If you live in the vicinity of Athens Georgia head on over to Musick Fest. These shows are to benefit a friend of Twang Nation and beloved Athens musician Wendy Musick, who plays guitar for Southern Bitch, with some very high medical bills.
As you know, most musicians don’t have insurance, so please come see these shows! There are two of ’em in Athens, and will feature Patterson Hood (Drive By Truckers) and the Screwtopians, Will Johnson from Centro-Matic, Don Chambers + Goat, David Barbe and the Quick Hooks, Dave Marr, Clay Leverett, Mother Jackson, Kimberly Morgan, Betsy Franck, Diet RockStar, Still Small Voice and The Joyful Noise, and Fest-goers can expect surprise performances by other members of the Athens Music Family.

Now go out, do some good and hear some great Georgia music!

Farm Aid 2006 Offers Diverse Line Up

The Texas Yodas doing it again for the family farmers. This year the 20th annual Live Aid benefit concert will take place in Camden, New Jersey and will feature Jerry Lee Lewis, Gov’t Mule, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Los Lonely Boys, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews, reggae legand Steel Pulse, polka legend Jimmy Sturr, Steve Earle and his wife Allison Moorer, Shelby Lynne, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Arlo Guthrie, Pauline Reese and Danielle Evin and of course, Mr. Willie Nelson.

If you can’t make it to the show, please consider making a donation anyway.

9/10/06 – Lonesome Jack’s Great Big Going Away Show at Sin-e (NYC)

Join Lonesome Jack as it says farewell to founding members Max Lyons
(drums) and Adam Kielman (banjo, saxophone, penny whistle, keyboards,
vocals), who are taking off for India and China, respectively. Lonesome Jack has been bringing its unique brand of bluegrass and Irish-infused punk to NYC and New England for the last two and a half years and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon.

Lonesome Jack will also be celebrating the completion of the recording for their second album, “Long Awkward Apocalypse,” made over two marathon weekends in Northfield, NJ. Samplers of the new material will
be available at the show.

3 New Willie Nelson Songs For Preview

As I mentioned a while back the Texas Yoda and Ryan Adams are teaming up for Willie’s next CD, “Songbird”, which is slated to drop October 31 (spooky!) now their label, Lost Highway Records, has posted samples of three tunes on their site for you listening pleasure: Songbird (the title song which was written by Christine McVie which appeared on Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors), Blue Hotel and Rainy Day Blues.

However, it appears you will have to offer up an email address and get a password to hear more than one clip. The record also has Willie, backed by Ryan and his Cardinals, covering Songbird Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, Gram Parsons’ “$1000 Wedding”, and Jerry Garcia’s & Robert Hunter’s “Stella Blue.” But, the record is not all covers. Nelson wrote the acoustic “Back to Earth” and Adams wrote “Blue Hotel” specifically for Willie.

The Silos Sign To Bloodshot / On Tour

80’s Alt.country stalwarts, and recent Bloodshot label mate, The Silos are currently on an East Coast jaunt delivering their brand of punk, roots-rock to the masses. Bloodshot will be unleashing the band’s latest, Come On Like the Fast Lane, in early 2007.
