Two musical loves of mine is classic heavy metal and Americana music. I know this skit from from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, featuring the Avett brothers covering Iron Maiden’s “Run to the Hills,” Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man,” and Metallica’S “One” is done for laughs, but part of me would love for it to be real. I mean if Ryan Adams can do Iron maiden straight why not?
The fake release is described thusly “If you’re looking for a sunnier, gentler sound of heavy metal classics like Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man,” then pick up a copy of “The Avett Brothers Sing Heavy Metal.”

startling how HM lyrics are so close to the classic themes of Bluegrass. Love and death, substitute alcohol for all drugs, strange apparitions and happenings. That High lonesome sound, with hair flying.
If Judas Priest can cover Joan Baez (Diamonds and Rust, and it is a great version to my ears even though I am not much of a metal fan), why not this?
And I agree with Joseph. Bluegrass is just as dark as metal, which I think Fallon misses. Not that the Avetts are really bluegrass.
Agreed, Knoxville girl is as dark as anything done by most metal bands. Bluegrass players are often just as skillful on their interments. Fallon probably is aware of this. We seems to know his music
Killen, AL, bluegrass group Iron Horse has been doing metal as bluegrass for years. Their Fade to Bluegrass, which covers Metallica songs, is excellent. You also have the “Picking On” series, which has covered a number of metal acts. Metal converts very well to bluegass…
