The Last Rites of Ransom Pride

I’m really pleased with the recent crop of westerns that have hot the big screens as of late – 3:10 To Yuma, Appaloosa, No Country for Old Men – but there’s one in particular I’m looking forward to.

The Last Rites of Ransom Pride, co-written by Texas music legend Ray Wylie Hubbard, is a violent Western (the studio says it’s going to be “Sam Peckinpah meets Quentin Tarantino” ) set in the early 1900s about a woman trying to bring her lover, a murdered outlaw, home to Glory, Texas for burial.

Scott Speedman (Underworld) plays the title character in flashbacks, country music legends Dwight Yoakam and Kris Kristofferson portray villain, W. Earl Brown (Al Swearengen’s right-hand man Dan Dority from HBO’s too-soonly defunct Deadwood), Lizzy Caplan (from HBO’S vampire series True Blood)  and Beverley Hills 90210’s Jason Priestley are all on the roster. The film is in post production and is slated to be out in early 2009.

I’ll be paying $10. for this one.

Heather could you say more about the release date? How you know? Did you read this somewhere or hear it from a friend or mind sharing a bit more details about where you came across this info? Would it help if I begged? Cause I am not above begging.

@ John Boncore – Thanks for the update. Please keep me posted and I’ll get the word out as it moves along. I’m really excited to see this film after seeing the sample treatment (with Gary Busey!) Hubbard showed in Nashville last year.

Here is the CORRECT info on the film:
    1) No it hasn’t priemered, the showing in LA last month was just for the cast and crew. It was not an official priemer.

    2) It is NOT short of money so do NOT call anyone on this list if you are interested in investing.

    3) It is now in the process of having a few minor editing changes and tweeking the score and sound tract.

    4) It has been picked up by an agent who is shopping it to distributors

    5) When a release date is set you will hear it from ME!

    6) I am married to Ray Wylie Hubbard who co-wrote the film and all the songs plus some of the score. We speak to the director and producers weekly….not sure why some of the info that is being posted is on this board as it not correct.
