- The New York Times has an extensive review of Joe Nick Patoski’s biography, “Willie Nelson: An Epic Life.â€
- Ted Hacker, he producer of next weekends BamaJam festival (featuring Hank Williams Jr., Miranda Lambert, Ricky Skaggs and much more), and a former country music manager for the Oak Ridge Boys, Diamond Rio and Darryl Worley details the steps it took to put the festival together.
- Ben Cisneros at the 9513 has nice things to say about Dallas’ Eleven Hundred Springs’ new release “Country Jam.”
- And lots of folks have lots to say, lots, about Jessica Simpson’s newest country music single “Come On Over.” The consensus seems to run toward (and I agree) that Jessica is doing to the song what she did to Tony Romo’s chances for the Superbowl.
- There is some talk about bringing back Austins’ legendary Armadillo World Headquarters. This is the place where, after leaving Nashville, Willie Nelson focused on remaking himself as the hippy/redneck savant as we know him today. Willie Nelson to Appear in Snoop Dog Video
The Texas Yoda will appear in hip hop artist Snoop Dog’s latest video for his country-tinged song (co-wriiten by Everlast) “My Medicine”
Snoop says of the video “It has a country-music feel to it. I shot the video in Amsterdam and Nashville during the Country Music Awards. It feels good to me to be able to make music. It’s not a typical hip-hop song, but once people listen to it and see the visual effect to it, they’re gonna enjoy it.”
“I get to be a gun-slinging cowboy with my brim on, my boots on, my jeans on, my long jacket, jumping off a horse,” he added. “Walking into a brothel, spitting game, leaving with a dame and the money, mannn.”

What Would Willie Nelson Do?
– Chet Flippo at CMT’s Nashville Skyline features thoughts on the new Wilie Nelson bio “Willie Nelson: An Epic Life” by Joe Nick Patoski. From the post:
Patsoki has ascribed his fascination with Nelson to his own decades-long quest to discover a way to write the real Texas book, the one that finally captures the giant sprawling state and its larger-than-life characters. He says he finally realized the answer lay right before him in the form of a Texas superstar he had already interviewed many times before. Willie Nelson was Texas.
– Ryan Adams has written on his blog that the Ryman Auditorium is a “shit hole in Nashville”and that he hates, HATES country music. And always has. And he “references†it when he makes music that sounds like that, the way a director would use water as a backdrop for a svcene (sic) with a shark in it.
And here I thought that sobriety would make Ryan less of a sniveling self-absorbed prick.
– Plans were announced today for this year’s 25th Annual International Country Music Conference.
“The International Country Music Conference is the premier academic event for those studying and writing about country music,†stated conference co-chair Don Cusic. “It is appropriate that ICMC is held at Nashville’s Belmont University.â€
This year the conference is set for May 22 to 24, 2008.
