News Round Up: Dixie Chicks Split For New Album

Jack Riley at London’s The Independent interviews Indy-Honky-Tonk sweet heart Caitlin Rose about her recent tour of Britain, her influences and her upcoming full release.

Sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison (born Erwin) will record an album together without their Dixie Chick partner Natalie Maines. Manine’s father reports that the split is “temporary.”

the as Angeles Times Backtracking has a great post on the newest Bear Family Dim Light series disc, Country & Western Hit Parade: Dim Lights, Thick Smoke and Hillbilly Music. The series spotlights popular country songs from 1945 to 1955.

It appears that the appearance at Ft. Worth’s Bass Hall of Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson on February 17th won’t be a solitary outing. The two legends will also appear at in Houston, TX on Norman, OK on the 6th, Norman, OK on February 18th, Bossier City, LA on the 19th, Robinsonville, MS on the 20th and Chicago, IL on the 21st.

Of the new project Maguire and Robison are working on, Maines says, “It’s old tunes Emily learned when she was a kid and she’s going to do an instructional book along with it.”

I read that and said to myself, “Aw, that’s really sweet!”

Those two seem so nice!
